Abstract:

The process of hydrogen ionization on conventional metalloceramic manufacturing nickel oxyhydroxide electrodes was examined by simulation sealed nickel-based rechargeable alkaline battery tests. The high efficiency of hydrogen oxidation was shown, when hydrogen evolved on cadmium or metal hydride electrodes in the course of water electrolysis. It was revealed that the hydrogen ionization rate was nearly two orders of magnitude larger than one for self-discharge of nickel oxyhydroxide electrode, on condition that electrode plates was densely packed together with the appropriate separating material. The hydrogen oxidation rate increased with increasing hydrogen evolving current density and electrode potential of nickel oxyhydroxide electrode.
