Abstract:

In the last decade, the use of lithium-ion batteries in transport, power engineering and industry has expanded. Batteries operate under the control of electronic battery management systems (BMS), one of the functions of which is balancing the cells in the battery. The article presents a method for imitational statistical modeling of charge-discharge cycles of lithium-ion batteries. This method allows studying the peculiarities of cell balancing in charge-discharge cycles, the distribution of currents between parallel groups of cells and other characteristics of battery operation. It is shown that natural variance of the electro-capacitive parameters of the cells in the batch leads to qualitative changes in the balancing process in comparison with the case of variance of the initial charge state of the cells, i.e. the probability of imbalance and the subsequent decrease in the available battery capacity increases. The “threshold” nature of the imbalance in relation to the established balancing parameters is shown using the statistical modeling method. The influence of the balancing parameters on the available capacity of the s16 battery during the cycling process was analyzed by using the statistical model of LFP cell. The areas of parameter values at which cells are likely to be balanced in a wrong way are shown.
