Modification of carbon materials for the lithium battery negative electrode with pyrolysis products of 3d metal-ethanolamine complexes

It was found that polynuclear complexes NiX2·2(fac-Co(Etm)3).], [NiX2·2[Co(Dctm)2] [NiX2·2[Co(HTetm)2], where Etm, Detm, Tetm are deprotonated molecules of mono- (NH2C2H4O) di- (NH(C2H4O)2) and tri-ethanolamine (N(C2H4O)3), after being inoculated onto the surface of graphite with subsequent pyrolysis in the inert atmosphere, become catalysts toward the reaction of Li intercalation into the graphite, thus improving the electrochemical properties of the graphite materials for negative electrode of Li-ion cells. The optimal pyrolysis temperature is about 500°C or somewhat higher, depending on the type of complex. Among the tested samples, the graphite materials modified with the diethanolamine complex thermally treated at 500-700°C showed the best electrochemical performance in terms of reversible capacity and cycle retention.
